ISLAMABAD, Feb 13 (APP):Chairman Pakistan Green Task Force, Dr. Jamal Nasir on Friday emphasized that climate change and unchecked population growth have never been addressed with the seriousness they demand, resulting in severe environmental and economic consequences for Pakistan.<\/div>\n

He expressed these views while addressing an awareness session on \u2018Environmental Threats\u2019 at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), said a press release.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Dr. Jamal Nasir highlighted the alarming global rate of deforestation, noting that the world continues to lose forest cover equivalent to a football field every few seconds. Regrettably, he observed, the deforestation ratio in Pakistan remains disproportionately high.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Citing widely reported data, he stated that Pakistan\u2019s forest cover stands at less than 5 percent,\u00a0 far below internationally recommended levels, making the country highly vulnerable to climate-induced disasters.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He further pointed out that environmental pollution is causing an estimated annual economic loss of around 38 million US dollars to the national economy.<\/div>\n

Underscoring the urgency of collective action, he called for immediate and sustained measures to address environmental degradation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He appreciated the proactive role of the private sector and non-governmental organizations in raising awareness and contributing towards environmental protection initiatives.<\/div>\n

In his welcome address, President ICCI stated that climate change is no longer a distant threat but a present-day reality directly affecting supply chains, escalating energy costs, reducing agricultural productivity, and undermining overall business stability.<\/div>\n

He stressed that sustainable development principles must be embedded within industrial and commercial operations to ensure long-term economic resilience.<\/div>\n
Reaffirming ICCI\u2019s commitment, he announced that the Chamber is actively promoting green business practices, renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency measures, and participation in plantation campaigns.<\/div>\n

He assured that ICCI would continue to collaborate with relevant government institutions and development partners to sensitize stakeholders and encourage environmentally responsible practices within the business community.<\/div>\n
