ISLAMABAD, Jan 30 (APP): The Government of Japan has funded the installation of seven water filtration plants in District Faisalabad, Punjab, aiming to provide safe drinking water to thousands of residents and strengthen humanitarian cooperation between Pakistan and Japan.<\/div>\n

The project was inaugurated by Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Akamatsu Shuichi, and implemented by Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, a non-governmental organization with over three decades of experience in humanitarian and development initiatives across the country, said a press release issued here on Friday.<\/div>\n

The initiative was financed through Japan\u2019s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme, with a financial contribution of 70,201 US dollars. The filtration plants have been installed in Peoples Colony-II, Badar Colony, Kuri Wala, 40 Mor Jaranwala, Chak No. 421 GB, Hussainabad in Faisalabad District, and Bamba Bola in Okara District. The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from the Japanese Embassy, representatives of Alkhidmat Foundation, and members of the beneficiary communities.<\/div>\n

Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has implemented several successful projects in the past in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy to improve the living standard of people in Pakistan. This project, funded by the Government of Japan responds to the urgent need of safe drinking water for over 400 households (or 2,870 people) in Faisalabad where a large proportion of the population is exposed to waterborne diseases due to contaminated water sources. The availability of clean drinking water will contribute to improve people\u2019s health and livelihoods.<\/div>\n

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated NGO for the successful completion of the project and appreciated its role in delivering essential services to underserved communities. He stressed that access to safe drinking water is a fundamental human right and a key priority of Japan\u2019s assistance policy toward Pakistan.<\/div>\n

The ambassador reiterated Govt of Japan\u2019s commitment to supporting the people of Pakistan and expressed hope that such collaborative projects would further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.<\/div>\n
