{"id":1142136,"date":"2026-01-06T17:08:26","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T12:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.app.com.pk\/?p=1142136"},"modified":"2026-01-06T17:08:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T12:08:26","slug":"smart-agriculture-imperative-to-tackle-challenges-of-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo.app.com.pk\/index.php\/2026\/01\/06\/smart-agriculture-imperative-to-tackle-challenges-of-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Smart agriculture imperative to tackle challenges of climate change&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">FAISALABAD, Jan 06 (APP):Chief Scientist Agricultural Research Dr Sajid-ur-Rehman said that climate-smart agriculture has become an urgent necessity to address growing challenges of climate change which are declining crop productivity and emerging threats to food security.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was addressing a seminar on \u201cModern Practices of Climate-Smart Farming\u201d organized by Pakistan Society of Agronomy in collaboration with the Agronomic Research Institute Faisalabad at main library of Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) Faisalabad.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Sajid-ur-Rehman said that climate change has severely disrupted traditional farming systems, pushing the farmers into serious economic difficulties.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said that healthy soils not only support better crop growth but also play a vital role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Highlighting key strategies, he underlined the importance of balanced fertilizer use, efficient water management and adoption of modern agricultural technologies to conserve natural resources and ensure sustainable agricultural growth.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said that climate-smart farming practices were essential to safeguard agriculture against extreme weather patterns in addition to ensuring long-term productivity.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">On this occasion, newly elected President of Pakistan Society of Agronomy Dr Naveed Akhtar also took oath of his office and said that he would play an active role in promoting climate-smart agriculture and improving standard of agricultural research.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Expert of University of Agricultural Faisalabad (UAF) Dr Fahad Rasool said that by adopting modern farming techniques, higher yields could be achieved even with limited resources.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former Pro Vice Chancellor UAF Prof Dr Asif Tanveer, Director SAWIE Dr Tasneem Khaliq, Director Agricultural Information Dr Asif Ali, Dr Intizar-ul-Hassan, Hafiz Naveed Ramzan and other agricultural scientists were present in the seminar in addition to a large number of farmers.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FAISALABAD, Jan 06 (APP):Chief Scientist Agricultural Research Dr Sajid-ur-Rehman said that climate-smart agriculture has become an urgent necessity to address growing challenges of climate change which are declining crop productivity and emerging threats to food security.
