LAHORE, Jan 03 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has chaired an important meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) to review and finalise a comprehensive strategy for achieving the targets assigned to Punjab Police by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for the year 2026.<\/div>\n
During the meeting, Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) briefed the IGP on new year targets relating to crime control, eradication of narcotics, infrastructure development, and police welfare. Emphasising Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif\u2019s Safe Punjab Vision, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that abuse and violence against women and children was the red line of Punjab Police, and that any negligence in such cases would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed officers to ensure prompt investigation and disposal of cases involving crimes against women and children.<\/div>\n
The IGP instructed RPOs and DPOs to further intensify operations against criminals and drug peddlers across the province during 2026. He also reviewed measures aimed at strengthening coordination between Traffic Police and Punjab Highway Patrol to improve traffic management and road safety.<\/div>\n
Dr. Usman Anwar made it clear that kite flying was absolutely intolerable anywhere in Punjab, and that strict, indiscriminate action would be taken against violators. He said that even in Lahore, Basant had been allowed only on specific days under strict government-approved conditions and in accordance with the law.<\/div>\n
The IGP stressed the importance of police welfare and timely promotions to boost the morale of the force, linking improved welfare with better law and order, security, and public service delivery. He directed RPOs to set clear and measurable performance targets for 2026 to further enhance policing standards.<\/div>\n
The meeting also decided to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, misuse of authority, and violation of the code of conduct, with strict accountability for offenders. IG Punjab said that the welfare of police personnel, families of martyrs, and fast-track promotions would remain among the top priorities of Punjab Police in 2026 as well. He further directed focused attention on the completion of Safe Cities projects, SPs Investigation offices, traffic licensing centres, driving training schools, Police Khidmat Markaz, and police barracks across the province.<\/div>\n
All RPOs, City Police Officers (CPOs), and DPOs attended the meeting via video link. Additional IG Operations Punjab, DIG Punjab Highway Patrol\/CTO Lahore Athar Waheed, DIG Welfare and Finance Zeeshan Asghar, Chief Administrative Officer Safe Cities Ammara Athar, AIG Logistics Muhammad Abdullah Lak, and AIG Operations Zahid Nawaz Marwat were also present.<\/div>\n
